How long does it take to complete a headstone?

If you order a stone which is on site and in inventory you can have it in 4-6 weeks. To order and have a stone cut at the quarry the turnaround time is approximately 90 days. When you order specifically colored stones (usually imported) it takes about 4 to 5 months. These times are only estimates.

What are the headstone design limitations?

Most headstone services companies can do pretty much anything you want. The only limitation is the size of the headstone, and that is determined by your cemetery.

Can I have a picture laser etched onto my marker or headstone?

Yes! Unheard of years ago, it is now gaining popularity.

How much does a headstone cost?

The headstone you choose will vary considerably in cost. Shapes, sizes colors, finishes, and carvings can affect your price.

Can headstones be used for pets?

Sure, the same basics of memorializing a person can be applied to your pet.

The cemetery said that I must buy my headstone from them. Is this true?

No. If you have been told that, you can file a complaint online with the Federal Trade Commission

How large can the lettering be on the memorial we order?

Often the family name on memorials is in a larger font – 2.5 to 3 inches. First names and dates are usually in a smaller font. Of course, it depends on the size of the headstone.

Does the cemetery have to accept a headstone purchased from an outside vendor?

Yes, as long as the headstone meets their specifications.

Does the cemetery install my headstone or marker?

In most cases, the cemetery will install the headstone for a fee. This can also be done by your local headstone services company.

Can I save some money and install my headstone or marker myself?

Maybe but it is not recommended. Do yourself a favor and use a professional monument installer do the installation of your headstone.

How much does it cost to ship a marker or a headstone?

Headstones are very heavy and so they are therefore expensive to ship. Your best bet to keep your expenses down is to buy a headstone in your local area.

Can the cemetery charge me an installation fee if I purchase a headstone from an outside source?

You should not be penalized for purchasing from a headstone services company. If the cemetery charges an installation fee for a headstone purchased from an outside source, they must also charge an installation fee if the headstone is purchased from them.

What is the difference between an at-need and a pre-need headstone?

An at-need headstone is purchased at the time of a person’s death. A pre-need headstone is purchased when one or both of the persons on the headstone are still living.
